The Harbour is the centrepiece of Australia Day celebrations. The program for the day is non-stop and action packed. The main event is the Ferrython; a ferry race that starts at Fort Denison, travels down the Harbour to Shark Island before returning to finish under the Bridge. The impressive regalia of the ferries is matched only by the teeming spectator fleet that falls in alongside to cheer on their favourite ferry.
Some of the other popular events on the jam-packed program include a 21 Gun Salute, a tall ship race, jet fly-overs, aerial displays, tug boat ballet, helicopter search and rescue demonstrations and a floating stage featuring performances from local artists.
